Getting into shape is an enjoyable process for some people, but many people do not find it easy! With so much varying information and advice on nutrition and exercise, it can be hard to know what you should do in order to maximise your efforts.

With the advent of technology it has become much simpler to track your progress when it comes to exercise and also to stay on top of your diet. This is thanks in no small part to the many apps that have been developed for this specific purpose.

Using an app to track your exercise is a great way to motivate yourself and to stay on top of your regime. It helps to show you how you have progressed, and also to keep track of your goals and targets.

All you need to do to get started is to choose the one you want to use and download it to your smartphone. What’s more is many of these fantastic apps are available for free! By browsing the ‘Health and Fitness’ category on your app store you will be able to see a wide range of choices and find the one that is right for you. There will also normally be a selection of user reviews from people who have used the app in question in the past. Reading through other people’s experience of using each app can help you to figure out which one is the best for you!

As well as helping you to track your gym workout, these apps usually also show you basic exercises that you can do at home. This means that you will have a catalogue of sessions on your phone that you can do anytime, anywhere.

Using app technology to get fit exercise fitness

There are so many of these apps to choose from so we have selected some of our favourites for you to get started with.

C25K

First of all, C25K by RunDouble is arguably one of the best options if you are looking for motivation at your fingertips. It is available for free on iOS and Android and is for those who want to get into running.

To begin you simply have to state your current weight, and the app will then provide you with a running guide that will span nine weeks. The voice tutorial to guide you through your run is a great added extra of this app and the intensity of the workouts builds slowly to enable beginners to stick with it.

First Run

First Run is also available on iOS and Android. It is similar to the C25K app in that it guides you through your training sessions in order to motivate you.

If you are a beginner then you can opt to start working up to a 5K, or for the more experienced runner there is a 10K option. The 5K option will take you nine weeks to reach completion and the 10K guides you over the course of 12 weeks. The interface is incredibly user friendly, which is one of the many things that we love about this app.

MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is one of the more well known of the fitness apps and is also widely used as a means of counting calories and tracking nutrition. By installing it on your phone, you can easily count your calories throughout the day, which can help to ensure that you do not over-eat and therefore sabotage your exercise efforts!

Tabata Trainer

This handy little app comes pre-loaded with exercise routines that you can have a go at to either boost your existing efforts or get started! This is a particularly good choice if you are looking to get into interval training.

The intensity of these workouts makes them very time efficient for those looking for fast results. This app also supports you towards specific goals and fitness targets.

Strava

This is another one of our favourite fitness apps when it comes to boosting motivation as it allows you to compete with other fitness fanatics! Some people find it much easier to stay on track when they feel they are accountable to toehr people, and this app helps you to share your progress with others in a way that is both friendly and competetive.

This app collects data from your GPS location to connect you with runners and cyclists around the world. There are countless challenges that you can participate in to really give yourself something to aim for and work towards.

Getting Started with Apps

If you have not yet fully embraced the smartphone era in which we now live, then you may find it hard to include app technology in you r exercise regime. Switching your routine up in this way can be daunting at first, and some of the apps may take you some time to really get used to. However, there are usually handy instruction guides to guide you through the process, with real-time support also generally being available.

If you are still stuck, then having a tech-savvy friend or family member guide you through the process could be your best choice. You can ask around to see what apps others are using, and then ask for help as you give them a go too. Also, there’s no need to stick to the first one that you choose. So if it doesn’t feel like it’s working for you then get back to the app store and have another look!
